On Becoming Uncivilized

Civilization: destruction, violation, degradation

Unthinking rocks, fallow land, must come under the dominion of man.

Ignorant savagery must have a haircut and a shave.

Perfume and cologne disconnect all things from the essence of what they are.

Modern man unyoked from nature – from his nature –

Deep feelings of sadness and separation.

There is only the one. There is no you and not you.

All things are one. Live uncivilized.

Be one with all things.

My wife and I watched "Woman Walking Ahead" last night. It inspired this little bit of free verse. It is no wonder the Native American nations have suffered depression and sadness for more than 100 years; we destroyed their way of life in the name of civilization.
